01 / What Is a Cash Game?

Build for dependable scoring paths.

Cash games reward consistency more than extreme upside. The objective is to build a lineup with enough reliable scoring paths to finish above the payout line more often - not to chase the single highest possible score.

Core idea: Favor dependable opportunity, role and projection over plays that require an unusually big game to succeed.

02 / Floor, Median & Projection

Start with the most likely outcome.

A projection is an estimate, not a guarantee. For cash construction, use projections as a disciplined starting point while asking how stable the player's opportunity is.

Median: a useful estimate of a player's central expected outcome. Floor: think in terms of ways a player can still produce when the game does not go perfectly. Ceiling: important, but it should not be the only reason a player makes a cash lineup.

Priority: Role, Volume, Projection, Salary. Then account for matchup, game environment and late news.

03 / Build a Stable Player Pool

Know why every player is in your lineup.

QBPrefer strong overall projections and reliable scoring paths. Rushing can add floor, but pocket passers can still be viable when volume and efficiency support the projection.
RBPrioritize touches, routes and targets, snap share and goal-line opportunity. Be cautious with uncertain committees.
WRPrioritize targets and route participation. High-volume roles matter more than highlight-reel potential.
TELook for routes, targets and red-zone involvement. Avoid paying only for a touchdown-dependent role.
DSTUse salary, pressure and sack potential, turnover opportunity and game environment. DST scoring is volatile, so avoid treating any defense as truly safe.

04 / Find Value Without Punting Opportunity

Cheap does not automatically mean value.

Salary relief is useful when the player has a believable path to touches or targets. Injuries or depth-chart changes can create legitimate value before pricing fully adjusts. A modestly priced player with consistent routes, carries or targets can be more useful than a low-volume big-play option.

Ask: If this player does not score a touchdown or hit a long play, can the role still produce useful fantasy points?

05 / Cash Lineup Construction

A repeatable six-step process.

  1. Start with your trusted projections.
  2. Identify role-driven value.
  3. Build around reliable volume.
  4. Review the lineup as a whole.
  5. Check every player's failure path.
  6. Recheck player status before lock.

Do not force stacking or correlation simply because it is common in tournaments. If several players need touchdowns or long plays to justify their spots, the lineup may be more fragile than it looks.

06 / Common Cash-Game Mistakes

Avoid unnecessary fragility.

Common mistakes include chasing last week's score, forcing a game stack at the expense of stronger individual plays, ignoring late news, confusing cheap salary with value, treating any player as risk-free and overreacting to matchup while ignoring volume.

07 / The FFFO Pre-Lock Checklist

Review before you submit.

✓ Confirm the contest type and scoring rules.
✓ Confirm every player is on the correct slate.
✓ Review injury designations and inactive news.
✓ Recheck expected roles after injury news.
✓ Review salary and projected opportunity.
✓ Look for unnecessary touchdown-dependent plays.
✓ Confirm the lineup satisfies salary-cap and roster rules.
✓ Give the final lineup one last review before lock.
Sunday rule: A lineup built earlier in the week is a draft. Late news can materially change the player pool.

08 / Use the Optimizer as a Decision Tool

Prepare. Generate. Review. Verify.

An optimizer can quickly search thousands of combinations, but the quality of the output still depends on the player pool, projections, status data and settings supplied to it. Use FFFO to organize the construction process - not as a substitute for reviewing the lineup.
